Proceedings of the DEFi symposium “Business-Finance dialogue on solutions and actions for nature 2”
The success of the first edition in 2022, the implementation of new regulatory requirements, the holding of COP 15 and the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal agreement, as well as the progress of work related to the TNFD have led Entreprises pour l’Environnement (EpE) and the Institut de la Finance Durable (IFD) to organize a second edition of the DEFi symposium ‘Dialogue Entreprise-Finance sur les solutions et actions pour la nature’, on October 4, 2023.
The organization of this day achieved several objectives:
- continue the momentum of exchanges between financial institutions, businesses and stakeholders on their actions in favor of biodiversity following the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework;
- discuss the requirements of biodiversity reporting frameworks for companies and financial institutions, and in particular the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures unveiled in September 2023;
- discuss the role of economic players in combating deforestation and protecting the oceans;
- improve the consideration given to biodiversity within governance bodies;
- discuss the role and conditions of use of the emerging market for biodiversity certificates.
The symposium brought together over 170 experts from industry, finance, consulting, scientific institutions, NGOs and public authorities. More than 15 hours of in-depth discussion and debate explored a number of complex issues, nurtured commitments and reminded us of the need to multiply collaboration and action in favor of biodiversity and climate, without waiting for the implementation of consensual indicators, tools and methods, which can be developed in parallel. This document summarizes the day’s debates.
